An artistic night is to be held at Blend Coffee Lounge in Perth, on November 3rd 2017 with a mix of photography, music & origami. The night is the opening of a photography exhibition by a local Perth based photographer Gareth King.  A recent graduate of Edinburgh College, King also exhibited the work at the Free Range Festival in London and has received interest from the Reuters news agency for its Wider Image section. At the beginning of October, he exhibited his “Life in the Faslane,” work at the Edinburgh World Justice Festival.

Taken over a six-month period, King’s series of photographs document Faslane Peace Camp. This social documentary captured the run-up to important visitors from Japan. The visitors were survivors of the “Little boy,” atomic bomb dropped on the city of Hiroshima during World War 2.

King said, of his work, “Although there are more dramatic hard news stories out there that capture the headlines, I believe the quieter stories are no less important. I wanted to tell a story that people can relate and connect to. By shining a light on the more hidden corners we don’t often see in the headlines."

Coady Johnstone from the 140,000 Paper Cranes Project will also be going along on the night for anyone who wants to join in with the making Paper Cranes project which will be an art installation in the Scottish Parliament next year. The project aims to make 140,000 paper cranes to capture the devastating effect the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945 had. It had killed 140,000 citizens by the end of the year.

Music will be provided by a rare acoustic performance by Dundee’s Little Anchors frontman singer-songwriter Ross Middlemiss, with his melodic crafted songs for fans of The Smiths, Sunny Day Real Estate, Idlewild or anyone who loves sincere, honest, acoustic guitar-based songwriters.  Also, the great troubadour vagabond Tragical History Tour will be rolling in to play some songs from his new EP Old Worlds.
