Steven Pearson : Giraffe Cafe

Giraffe is at the heart of the Perth community and operates six social enterprise venues right here in our small city. Supported by a team of volunteers and skilled staff, they also offer training and work development for people that have been experiencing long term and enduring disabilities.

Steven is a fully trained and experienced chef who adds great value to the Giraffe Cafe in Perth, with not only his tasty cooking, but by sharing his fountain of foodie knowledge with the rest of the staff. We catch up with him to find out more on how he likes to spend his time in and out of the kitchen!

1. What signals the start of your days off?

Good question, At the moment if feels like there is no day off. We have an eight month old baby Benjamin, who keeps us pretty busy as he is almost walking and we also have a six year old lab, Molly who still thinks is a puppy! So basically our days off consist of chasing one or the other!

2. What might people be surprised to know about you?

I used to be a hand model...yes seriously!

3. What is at the top of your bucket list?

I love the cold and snow, so probably to visit the poles

4. What is the worst job you’ve ever had?

Believe it or not, I've always enjoyed any job that i've had. I wouldn’t stay somewhere If I wasn’t happy life is way too short for that.

5. Who or what inspires you?

People who care and go the extra mile to help others inspire me. And my wife, she is the most determined and hard-working person I know.

6. Tell us about the day you’d love to live again?

None, I think enjoy your time and move forward.

7. What’s the best part about your job?

It’s interesting, no day is the same and i'm lucky enough to meet a lot of people from different backgrounds and cultures every day.

It’s also very rewarding to be in a position to help people become more independent and learn new skills as well as helping our local community.
