Founder of Strathearn distillery,Tony is the mad professor or now more fondly known as The Malt Maverick! We chat all about his boozy weeks as the owner and founder of the amazing Strathearn Distillery in Methven. As a gin lover, i've tried many different brands and flavour combinations but the Strathearn Citrus Gin is definitely one of my favourites!

Tony is the man you want at a party as he can turn his hand to anything alchoholic gin, whisky and most recently rum!

1. What does a typical day at work look like for you?

A typical day does not exist for me. I run the company but I also help out and this can be anything from emptying the bins to teaching people about the history of whisky on a bus. Every day is different and that’s what makes it so much fun. Sadly it also involves a lot of paperwork and emails.

2. What signals the start of your weekend / days off?

LOL – weekends and days off don’t really exist but when possible I love to go out for breakfast with my wife as we can chat and there are no emails to check. That sometimes means we can escape for the rest of the day too. So breakfast out is the answer.

3. What might people be surprised to know about you?

I’m always surprising people with mad ideas or things I’ve done. I wonder how many people know I’m half Italian?

4. Top of your bucket list?

A calibrated, stainless steel bucket with pouring spout. And I would love to take my wife on holiday to Ethiopia.

5. Worst job you’ve ever had?

I’ve been lucky to work in many different roles around the world and can’t think of anything out of the ordinary. There are always the usual politics etc. Worst job – having to make people I don’t know redundant.

6. Who or what inspires you?

So many things but life in general. There are many success stories and always someone worse off than yourself. Probably above all my Italian Grandfather, travelled the world, always smiled and saw the good side of everyone and everything. A hero, in very tough times.

7. Tell us about the weekend you’d love to live again?

So, so many. But generally, it is Mandy (my wife) and I exploring a new country.

8. What’s the best part about your job?

The people! The team of Liam, David, Kenny, Michelle, Abby and Jamie are amazing. And the people we meet come from all over the world.

9. What’s in the perfect day off breakfast?

Avocado and barrel aged Feta with chilli, mashed up and spread on toasted homemade bread topped with a poached egg and crispy bacon.
