Reflections of Perthshire

Now I am in charge of selecting pictures for our weekly Perthshire gallery, I often find myself trying to select pictures that look at the surroundings we are used to in a different way. This is reflected in the pictures that Roben Antoniewicz selected of Perthshire at the very dawn of photography.  Buildings and places that are just about recognisable as the Perthshire we know but distorted by the mists of time.

We recently used some excellent pictures provided by the amazing Pictures of Perth and Beyond Facebook group for a gallery of our little feathered friends.  Everyone was so impressed with the pictures that I turned to them for something a little bit different.  I wanted pictures of Perthshire reflected in water!

I had heard from Gordon Muir that another member of the Pictures of Perth and Beyond group specialised in "puddle landscapes", snapping photographs of Perthshire reflected in the puddles on the pavement after rain-fall.  It sounds pretty wacky but the results are impressive and transformative.  So today you can find images by Tom Ryan of George Street and a neon-lit Concert Hall duplicated in shallow puddles and we even have a picture of a peacock checking itself out in a puddle in the grounds of Scone Palace (courtesy of Marysia MacFarlane).

We also have images of Smeaton's bridge, Tay Street and herons reflected in the glass-like surface of the silvery Tay, and you get twice the duck and grebe for your money with shots of them splashing around on ponds.  Further out of Perth we can see a beautiful azure sky dotted with clouds reflected on the Tay winding its way to Dundee, a fiery red autumnal forest reflected in the loch at Dunkeld and a spooky image of the tunnels at Glenfarg that wouldn't seem out of place in the recent horror blockbuster film 'It'.
