A September of Food, Drink and More!

30 September 2018

In September Perth was absolutely brimming full with activities, tastes, and sights to see and experience! From the Wee G&T Festival at Dewars, to the steely determination of the participants at the Spartan race in Perth, there was a real buzz in the air felt by many.

Food and crafts stalls lined the streets of the city centre during the Continental Street Market, turning the area into a buzzing hive of activity. A Native Handicraft tent sold beautifully crafted pieces, including vibrantly painted wooden jewellery, ornate dreamcatchers blowing gently in the breeze, and even eye-catchingly decorated pan flutes. ‘Scent’ nearby sold eccentric handmade bathing goods – a memorable highlight being their skull shaped bath bombs!

There was opportunity a-plenty to sample food from various cuisines – from Chinese noodles to Polish sausages, a real flavour of world cuisine graced Perth this weekend. Nearby, authentic and delicious vegetarian and vegan Indian food was being served up by the plateful, while at Dobra, the aromas from huge pans with various types of paella enticed many.

Indeed, the return of the Continental Food Markets was wonderful – and appropriate too, considering Perth hosted its very first ‘A Taste of Perthshire Food Festival’ this month! At Horsecross Plaza, vendors lined the streets, with the ‘Perthshire Tasting Tent and Bavarian Bar’ being a particularly memorable point, with delicious samples from local producers, chefs and bars much appreciated by the crowds!

And if all that food left you thirsty you were just in luck – as the Wee G&T Festival returned for its third year in the new home of Dewars Centre. Delicious gins were enjoyed all round, with masterclasses and gin-themed cookery demonstrations taking place throughout the day.

And if you had some extra energy left-over from the day’s proceedings you were in luck – the Spartan race took place too. Huge crowds of racers gathered for the gruelling challenge that put them through their paces and pushed them to their very limits.

The Black Watch homecoming parade marched through the streets, with pipers adorned in kilts playing bagpipes and drumming. All in all, this was a September with plenty to do, see and experience in our Fair City!
