Calling all supporters of our local sporting heroes! Whether you're flying the flag for a young, up-and-coming athlete, want to sing the praises of a fantastic coach, or are rooting for one of our performance path superstars, this is your chance to tell everyone just how great your local sporting hero is. Nominations are now open for the Perth and Kinross Sports Person of the Year Awards, #SPOTYPK.

We are undoubtedly spoiled for choice when it comes to sporting opportunities here in Perth and Kinross, and this is all thanks to a proactive sporting community, the many great coaches and volunteers, and the fact that we have access to some of the country’s best venues and facilities. 

This is your chance to tell everyone just how great your local sporting hero is.The organisers of the awards - Live Active Leisure's Sports Team - are proud to be recognising these achievements once again, in a fantastic ceremony which will take place in Dewars Centre on Friday 8th March 2019.  Hosted by Jim Spence, BBC's Scottish Sports Broadcaster, the evening promises to be a real celebration of sports in the area.

This year's guest speaker is 400m hurdler and 2016 Olympic Medalist, Eilidh Doyle (Child).  Eilidh is the most decorated Scottish athlete in Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth competition and was Team GB Captain at the 2017 World Championships.  

But back to now! The nomination period is now open and the LAL team are looking for your opinion. Entries must reflect sporting achievements completed between 1st January 2018 and 31st December 2018 – and should come from the whole of Perth and Kinross to ensure a good spread of congratulations and merit.

  • Entries will be judged on achievements from 1 Jan - 31 Dec 2018.
  • Nominations on official forms (online and hard copies. Photocopies and electronic copies acceptable) to be received by 18th January 2019.
  • Nominations will be judged on the entry form alone except for the Sports Personality of the Year Award.
  • Nominees must be a resident in Perth and Kinross for at least 6 months prior to the event and/or be affiliated to a club/sport in Perth and Kinross.
  • The sport must be officially recognised by Sportscotland.
  • Please use the specific Award Criteria as a guide to writing your nomination and include any supplementary information to enhance the nomination. The panel can only make a judgement on the information provided here, so please ensure you clearly state why your nominee deserves the award.
  • The Awards Team reserves the right to seek verification on the information included in the nomination form.

Now in its 29th year, the award ceremony will honour clubs, individuals, teams and events that play an active role in the sporting life of Perth and Kinross.

SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR SPONSORED BY THORNTONS
2017 Winner : Bradley Neil (golf)

  • Must be 18 years or over.
  • Has achieved considerable success in their chosen sport in a competitive environment in 2018.

SCHOOL TEAM OF THE YEAR SPONSORED BY ACTIVE SCHOOLS
2017 Winner : Auchterarder Gymnastics Level 3 Team

Awarded to a school team that has been successful in local, national or international schools competition during 2018. Please note that you can nominate more than one team per school.

  • All pupils must all be from the same school.
  • Based on success relevant to level at which the team participates.
  • Based on results of the team and not results of individuals who make up the team.

GEORGE MORTIMER LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD SPONSORED BY PERTH & KINROSS SPORTS COUNCIL
2017 Winner : Nancy Davidson (athletics)

Achievement Award that is presented to a dedicated individual who has given a considerable commitment to sport.

COACH OF THE YEAR SPONSORED BY SPRINTERZ
2017 Winner : Ann Dickson (swimming) 

This award will go to the coach who has been committed to providing the highest standard of coaching, whether it’s with individuals or teams and at any participation level i.e. open to school, club, regional or international level coaches.

  • The coach has a positive and encouraging attitude that has inspired and made an impact on others.
  • Holds a National Governing Body coaching qualification.

CLUB OF THE YEAR SPONSORED BY STEVE BROWN ELECTRICAL LTD
2017 Winner : Auchterarder Gymnastics Club

This will be awarded to the Club who have made a significant impact to the development of their sport in 2018.

  • The club is open to all sectors of the community.
  • Committed to training, recruiting and recognising volunteers and coaches.
  • Can evidence ongoing development of the club.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR SPONSORED BY THE TROPHY SHOP
2017 Winner: Russel Kesson (basketball)

This will be awarded to an individual who has given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sports in any capacity.

  • They will have made a significant impact to a club/local community group/organisation or school.
  • Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others.

YOUNG FEMALE & YOUNG MALE SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR SPONSORED BY ALISON WILSON

  • Must be under 18 years old.
  • Have achieved considerable success in their chosen sport within a competitive environment.

This award is open to sports people with a physical, learning or sensory disability.

YOUNG COACH OF THE YEAR SPONSORED BY T’GO CREATIVE
2017 Winner : Louise Brett (athletics and Boccia)

To recognise a Young Coach who has shown outstanding commitment and enthusiasm towards coaching.

  • Must be under the age of 25.
  • Has had a significant impact on the individuals or teams they coach.
  • Coaching could be within a school or club setting.

  • An individual that has shown real commitment to officiating, excelling in their own field at any level of sporting competition.

This will be awarded to a team that has been successful in local, national or international competition during 2018.

  • The team must be of amateur status.
  • This award is open to adult and junior teams.
  • More than one team per club can be nominated.
