Poppies at the Black Watch

09 July 2016

Weeping Window is a cascade comprising several thousand handmade ceramic poppies seen pouring from a high vantage point to the ground below. One of two sculptures by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper, originally conceived as the key sculptural elements in the installation, ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’, at the Tower of London in 2014, marking the centenary of the First World War.

Weeping Window is brought to The Black Watch Castle and Museum as part of 14-18 NOW, the UK's arts programme for the First World War centenary.

The Black Watch Museum is a focal point for remembrance and learning about the First World War and other conflicts and makes for a poignant and fitting venue for this thought provoking sculpture. This installation will run until 25th September 2016.

We would like to thank all our wonderful Instagramming friends for all the beautiful pictures that they have taken. Find out more about them below and make sure you follow them for more amazing pics!

'... I have always had a love of the outdoors and being close to nature ever since I was a little girl living in the Australian outback.  After upgrading to an IPhone6 last year I started trying to capture this passion along with educating my children of the simple beauty around them.  Now with a ‘real camera’ in hand, and an ever-increasing desire to ‘chase that sunset’, I can’t stop exploring and inspiring others!  Scotland is a beautiful place and a photographer's dream ...' - Kristy

'... I am a self taught photographer living in Perth who loves getting out and about to capture images of our beautiful country. My creative journey started in 2000 when I studied Graphic Design. Years later I started experimenting with photography, seeing what I could create and became engrossed very quickly.  I originally starting photographing weddings and portraits of people but became hooked on landscapes two years ago. I continue to travel about Scotland to new places to capture images that inspire others and show people what beauty is all around us ...' - Jamie

'... I'm an Instagrammer from Errol who is very excited about sharing photographs from around Scotland on this social media platform.

I've been living in Perthshire for 10 years and as I've discovered more and more of the areas' awe-inspiring treasures: breathtaking hills and glens; expansive forests; bleak and beautiful moors; castles and more I've become increasingly passionate about sharing Perthshire with the wider world.

In my day job I work within the media sector helping charities and businesses communicate their story to targeted markets as widely and cost effectively as possible...' - Ian

'... On my 40th birthday my wife gave me a camera and I started taking pics of everything and anything. With a little persuasion from others I decided to start posting my images on Instagram and I guess that’s when it all changed for me. I was using Instagram like a sketch book where I began journalling what I see and trying to convey the emotions that I feel in the places I found myself. I think I have seen more of Scotland this year than I have in my whole life ...' - Craig

'...About two years ago I decided I wanted to explore more of Scotland and started an Instagram account to share my journey discovering this enchanting land.  To me photography is not just about capturing moments, it’s also about capturing emotions and telling stories.  Anyone who follows me on instagram can see through my photos how much this beautiful country has inspired me...' - Berries

'... I'm a keen traveller and photographer from Dunfermline, Fife. My passion for travel and to explore new places has in a way driven my interest in photography. With my photography, I always aim to capture my surrounds and share the images with a goal to inspire others. I guess thats why I enjoy Instagram so much, its a fantastic platform to share my adventure and travels and to stay in touch with similar travel addicts... ' - Darren

"I have always had an artistic eye and grew up painting and drawing, only trying out photography with my iPhone 2 and a half years ago. I was soon given a camera from a friend who was impressed by my compositions and it has been a growing love story ever since. I live near Edinburgh's old town and enjoy documenting its streets and closes, having become interested in portraits and product photography more recently."
