Christmas Light's Switch On 2019

18 November 2019

Once again the Christmas Light Switch On Event, coupled with the Perth Festive Feast, has been a great success. The whole weekend saw people come to Perth in the tens of thousands for the light switch on event on Saturday. Sundays festive feast, which saw the local area recreated in stunning detail in cake form, was also a huge success.

Live from Perth city centre on Saturday, the Main Stage was kept in check by Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern, and together with the man with the plan, Mister Lionel Vinyl, he the crowds in the party spirit all night!

Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt was warmly welcomed towards the end of the evening, and the 2019 musical line up continued to please with Boomin, top Elvis tribute Lee Memphis King, and Perth/Dundee rock and pop tribute band Last Orders. Also back by popular demand was everyone’s favourite fox Basil Brush!

Perth Council believe that this year’s event has brought the biggest crowd in so far for the whole event, with approximately 98,000 in Perth on Saturday and 48,000 people at the time of the Christmas Lights Switch On. They are also extremely confident that the event will have met, if not surpassed, last year’s economic boost of £1.9 million over the weekend.

The Winter Festival programme is still in its early days for the year and there is so much more yet to come over the coming months including the St Andrew’s Day celebrations, the Santa Run and the return of the Perth Light Nights.
