It's beginning to look a lot like winter

This beautiful gallery showcases Perthshire in all its winter glory with still lochs, red skies and livestock feeding in snowy fields. As you browse through these stunning images, you can't help but think that Mother Nature has a particular soft spot for our amazing wee corner of the world.  Each season giving us more beauty in the wild landscape, forests, lochs, mountains and fields of Perthshire.

We have been fortunate this week to have contribution from six local photographers who care currently making a big impact on Instagram.  Some are keen amateurs, some are professionals and all share a love of the great outdoors and the beauty that can be found right here on our doorstep.

The gallery has been curated by Kristy Ashton, our amazing Small City admin support.

'... I have always had a love of the outdoors and being close to nature ever since I was a little girl living in the Australian outback.  After upgrading to an IPhone6 last year I started trying to capture this passion along with educating my children of the simple beauty around them.  Now with a ‘real camera’ in hand, and an ever-increasing desire to ‘chase that sunset’, I can’t stop exploring!  Scotland is a beautiful place and a photographer's dream ...'

'... On my 40th birthday my wife gave me a camera and I started taking pics of everything and anything. With a little persuasion from others I decided to start posting my images on Instagram and I guess that’s when it all changed for me. I was using Instagram like a sketch book where I began journalling what I see and trying to convey the emotions that I feel in the places I found myself. I think I have seen more of Scotland this year than I have in my whole life ...'

'... I am a self taught photographer living in Perth who loves getting out and about to capture images of our beautiful country. My creative journey started in 2000 when I studied Graphic Design. Years later I started experimenting with photography, seeing what I could create and became engrossed very quickly.  I originally starting photographing weddings and portraits of people but became hooked on landscapes two years ago. I continue to travel about Scotland to new places to capture images that inspire others and show people what beauty is all around us ...'

'... I'm a photography enthusiast based in Perth, looking to get out to catch the sunrise as often as I can. I first got into photography back in 2007 when I was travelling up to the Isle of Skye and back for work; I couldn't pass the ever-changing, stunning scenery without trying to capture it on my phone - and it all stemmed from there. It's a great hobby that gets you out and about in the fresh air - standing on the coast or on a hill in the pitch black with the world to yourself as the sun comes up is one of the best feelings in the world. You should try it! ...'

'... I'm an amatuer photographer who lives in Errol and I have become very excited about, and possibly even a little addicted (!) to, instagram over past 12 months. I love it!  I'm really passionate about Perthshire and sharing with the wider world all the great things we have to see and do here on our doorstep. In my day job I work in the media sector helping charities and businesses make the most of what's out there as they look to communicate their own story on a shoestring budget ...'

'... I've lived in Perth for most of my life but it's only recently, after seeing other places in the world and then coming home, that I realised how beautiful this part of the world is to live in.  My sister Rachel was the main reason I became interested in taking photos, partly because I've always loved her pictures of Scotland, and partly because it was her camera I would nick before I got my own. So now I like to wander, and take photos of anything and everything I see! ...'
