A little bit of history!

Afternoon tea was introduced in 1840 by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford. The evening meal in her household was served late at eight o'clock, leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner with the Duchess becoming hungry around four o'clock in the afternoon. The Duchess asked for a tray of tea, bread and butter and cake to be brought to her during late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.

Why not invite your friends and make an afternoon of it at Glendoick Garden Centre Café?

Its fabulous food hall is filled with Scottish produce and the café focuses on homemade soups, scones, coffees and tray bakes.

There’s also a new children’s play area as well as a gift shop, making this a great day out for the whole family - it’s no wonder Glendoick has locals and visitors returning again and again!
