I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that life that seems to be getting faster paced and even more jam-packed the older I get. Not that I’m complaining – it is a great feeling to be surrounded by friends and colleagues who are always up for the work hard, play hard motto I’ve built my life on. However, every now and then you really do just want to chill and take a breather and so I was all over a recent invitation from Dunkeld House Hotel to pop up and have a look round their recently refurbished beauty rooms and spa.
I decided to take the train from Perth: 15 minutes from city centre into Birnam Station and a gorgeous stroll from the train along the river front to the hotel. I’ve been lucky enough to stay and eat at Dunkeld House a few times over the years and have watched with interest at the incredible refurbishment that has taken place over the past two years.
Soft colours and luxurious feeling fabrics and furnishings make for a beautifully relaxed and indulgent atmosphereThe beauty rooms were one of the last areas to be complete but this gorgeous little hub of relaxation has now been made even more serene than I can ever remember. Soft colours and luxurious feeling fabrics and furnishings make for a beautifully relaxed and indulgent atmosphere, with one particularly stunning table made using reclaimed wood from the grounds of the estate.
I was welcomed by my therapist, the lovely Chamaine, who ran me through the usual questions before showing me round. There are now four rooms available for treatments including a room with a deep, luxurious bath which is used for the indulgent ishga Seaweed Bath… Note to self: book in again for one of those!
I was booked in for a Jessica Gel Polish and a chat with Chamaine about the new beauty membership package the spa has recently launched. Now, I know that a mani isn’t the most testing of treatments but it’s the one I always think sets the standard for quality. It’s easy to cut corners, and one that many therapists will do without thinking so I was super-impressed with the care and detail that Chamaine paid to my hour long treatment. From trimming down the cuticles to a gentle scrub and lotion, to the precision application of the gel, she made a simple task seem like it was her most important job that day – always a lovely feeling when you’re on the receiving end of things.
We talked about the spa and the changes that had happened and she enthused about the new range of ishga products and the time that had been invested in training for the team. The most exciting news she had though, was the launch of the aforementioned Monthly Beauty Package which is open to everyone in the area. For a fixed price – see below – you can choose two of their essential treatments (nails, waxing, brows) to enjoy every month alongside a full day of spa access and discount on their lush products. And if you're thinking of an all round wellbeing package then do check out the platinum package with unlimited monthly gym, pool and health suite facilities included in the price>>>
“Nowadays having your nails and brows done is every bit as important as having your hair cut, and women don’t like to miss an appointment. What we’ve done is package this up with access to the pool, sauna, gym and steam rooms so that you can come and make a day of it. It’s a great deal and people really seem to be loving it.”
No wonder. The beauty rooms and spa look over the stunning grounds of the hotel itself, which is situated right on the banks of the River Tay. It really is idyllic - just 15 minutes from the city and you’re in some of the most peaceful countryside for miles around. The idea of dropping in once a month to soak up the all that fresh air and tranquillity is more than a little appealing. Direct Debit it and you’d never even notice….
And of course, you’ll want to know how good the nails look! Gorgeous is the answer. The Jessica gelaration is super glossy and I received so many compliments over the following few days that I’m thinking a monthly trip to Dunkled might be just what I need!
