It’s one of the highlights of the racing season – the City of Perth Gold Cup!

The prestigious annual race is worth £30,000 to the winner on a race card worth nearly £100,000 in total. It’s an opportunity to watch first-class national hunt racing from either the packed Grandstand area or the picnic hotspot of the Centre Course!

The first weekend meeting of the year, the Gold Cup is staged on Sunday 3rd June and is one of the busiest and most popular race days on the calendar. With the summer underway, it’s sunglasses and hats galore around the Grandstand area with thousands flocking to watch some of the highest rated horses in the country compete for the main prize.

The City of Perth Gold Cup is contested by top quality chasers. Indeed the 2016 runner-up, Menorah, was the classiest and highest rated horse to grace Perth Racecourse for two decades and last year’s winner – Beeves – is being aimed at the Aintree Grand National.

It’s also the first race day where the Centre Course area is open which means you can bring your own picnic and deck chairs and watch the action unfold from the middle of the track. Feel free to bring your own disposable BBQ’s to cook up a storm but please dispose of them in the bins provided. Make sure you arrive early to drive right in and secure the perfect spot! Bring the kids and let them enjoy a wide selection of inflatables while you relax with a drink from the Sports Bar.

Dress to impress in the Grandstand area but in the Centre Course, there is no dress code but make sure you’re suitably prepared for the weather. Make sure you get around the betting ring to have a punt on the seven great races on the day’s card and cheer your horse on as it crosses the line and lands you a cheeky lump sum.

There will be live music from Scottish band Carbon Copy after the last race, so make sure you keep the party going in The Barn and try some local beers and ales while listening to fantastic music.

You’ll want to secure your tickets early for what is without question one of the busiest and most highly anticipated fixtures in the Perth Racecourse calendar. Whether you’re in the Grandstand or the Centre Course, the City of Perth Gold Cup is a race day that you simply won’t want to miss!

Gates open at 11:30 and the last race is at 17:10. Visit the Perth Racecourse website to purchase tickets.
