Chasing The Sun

Winter in Perthshire - and throughout Scotland - throws up some the most beautiful images on earth and this breathtaking gallery will leave you setting your alarm to make the early morning sunrise.

With the sun low in the sky and a landscape of mountains, rivers, lochs and fields, a mystical land appears under a blanket streaked with orange, pink, red and gold.

These breathtaking sunsets and sunrises have been taken during the winter of 2015 / 2016 by our extremely talented local Sun Chasers. Enjoy.

Gallery Photographers:

We are thrilled this week to have contribution from four local photographers who are currently making a big impact on Instagram.  Some are keen amateurs, some are professionals and all share a love of the great outdoors and the beauty that can be found right here on our doorstep.

The gallery has been curated by Kristy Ashton, our amazing Small City admin support.

'... I am a self taught photographer living in Perth who loves getting out and about to capture images of our beautiful country. My creative journey started in 2000 when I studied Graphic Design. Years later I started experimenting with photography, seeing what I could create and became engrossed very quickly.  I originally starting photographing weddings and portraits of people but became hooked on landscapes two years ago. I continue to travel about Scotland to new places to capture images that inspire others and show people what beauty is all around us ...'

'...Living in Perthshire, it's all too easy to take the natural beauty of Scotland for granted, something which I am guilty of on a daily basis - along with many others I suspect.  I find photography helps counter this to a certain degree as it requires you to actively assess the scene in front of you.  It is a bit of a double edge sword however, as I frequently find myself standing in front of a beautiful landscape trying to work out how to best compose a photo, and almost oblivious to the fact that I'm right there, in the scene, and it's only later when looking at the photos I realise how much I actually missed...'

'...I have lived in Perthshire for the past 8 years. I love photography, all aspects, landscape, sunsets, sunrises.nature. I am open to new challenges and photography has plenty of them. Social Media has certainly played a large part over the last three years. there are some great pics, and it makes you want to see these places. which must be a good thing...'

'...I have always had a love of the outdoors and being close to nature ever since I was a little girl living in the Australian outback.  After upgrading to an IPhone6 last year I started trying to capture this passion along with educating my children of the simple beauty around them.  Now with a ‘real camera’ in hand, and an ever-increasing desire to ‘chase that sunset’, I can’t stop exploring!  Scotland is a beautiful place and a photographer's dream...'
