What could be better for your own wellbeing (and karma!) than helping others? Perth Autism Support (PAS) is a local children's charity with a range of volunteering opportunities!

1st January 2016

Perth Autism Support is a local children’s charity supporting 140 individual children with autism or social communication difficulties per week through activities and services in Perth, Aberfeldy, Blairgowrie, Crieff and Pitlochry.  PAS offers a number of volunteering opportunities within a range of service provisions including after school activities, school holiday programmes, befriending and short breaks.

Wellbeing PAS VolunteeringOur after school activities cover a complete range of classes including youth theatre, video game programming, social groups, cooking, swimming, horse riding and football, to name just a few! With over 30 activities on offer there is always something to suit volunteer’s skills or interests.  Perth Autism Support also require volunteers to support within our school holiday programmes and with our siblings programme, to support the brothers and sisters of children with autism.

Our Young Adult project supports young people who are aged 16-18 years old and this work is designed to help support them through the often difficult transition to adult services by providing peer support and fun, supportive social activities.

Wellbeing PAS volunteering campfireSome of our children are unable to access group activities for a number of reasons, they may need more targeted individual work or simply be unable to access group activities due to their rural location, this is where our Befriending volunteers help! Working one to one with a child, volunteers organise fun trips out and skills development through a targeted individual plan.

Our Short Breaks service allows children with autism the chance to experience a weekend outdoor activity camp, often being their first time away from home, this is preceded by 6 months of social activities for the children to build relationships with the other campers and volunteers/staff attending and is a fantastic support to building confidence and self-esteem.

Wellbeing PAS volunteering one on oneLast but not least, if volunteers would like to be involved with the organisation but cannot commit to a regular opportunity, our fundraising and events team are always looking for volunteers to support ad hoc events to help keeping raising funds to continue our support services!

All of our volunteers are required to undertake mandatory training and are offered the same full training programme as our staff, and can volunteer from 1 hour per week to more!  Our volunteers are fully supported by our Volunteering Co-ordinator and our staff team and having achieved our Volunteer Friendly Award in 2014 we strive to make our volunteers time with us as beneficial as possible.
