Poppies: Weeping Window

By 11th February 2016

I'm sure you all remember seeing the breathatking poppy display at The Tower of London last year, which commemorated one hundred years since the first full day of Britain's involvement in the First World War.

The major art installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London, was created by artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper and captured the imagination of over 5 million visitors.

The poppies were sold off at the end of the display but Wave and Weeping Window was held back for nationwide tours by the Backstage Trust and the Clore Duffield Foundation, and gifted to 14-18 NOW and Imperial War Museums.

This has created an awe-inspiring touring exhibition and we are delighted to announce that Weeping Window will show at Perth’s Five Star Visitor attraction, The Black Watch Castle and Museum.

Running from 30th June until 25th September Weeping Window is a cascade made up of several thousand handmade ceramic poppies whcih will be seen pouring from Balhousie Castle's second floor turret window onto the Castle grounds below.

This promises to be a breathtaking exhibition and the Black Watch are giving all of us a unique opportunity to join in and become involved with this stunning sculpture.

Poppies LandscapeThe Poppy Partner volunteer role will include supporting the Castle and Museum Team to provide a world class visitor experience, through visitor engagement, tours, events and operational support.

The castle welcome volunteers of all ages who are keen to be involved with this moving First World War commemoration. If you are above 16 years old and able to dedicate time between 30 June and 25 September 2016.

This is a fantastic opportunity to participate in the national First World War commemorations right here in Perth and if you would like to be involved in sharing this moving art work with our visitors and helping Blackwatch to create meaning and relevance to this historic sculpture then click over and visit their website volunteering page where you can read the role information and submit an application by 28 February 2016. You can also email or call 01738 638152 Ex 208.
