Travel The World Community Challenge

>Following the ease into lifting the lockdown restrictions, outside activities including golf, canoeing and hiking are now permitted in Scotland.  My other-half is practicing his air-swing (like air guitar for the over forties!) in the garden as I type. 

>Unfortunately, leisure centres and gyms are not due to reopen until the country reaches phase three of the exit-lockdown plan meaning that for many of us, our daily exercise will continue to focus around walking, running and cycling.

>In order to help people stick with this, and to keep us connected to our fitness families, Live Active Leisure has launched a new campaign encouraging the residents of Perth and Kinross to ‘Travel the World with LAL’.  

>Kelly Parker, Marketing & Communications Manager for Live Active Leisure commented, “We know from years of experience that staying active is more rewarding when you have a goal to work towards. 

>Everyone is welcome to join us as we aim to collectively travel as many of the 24,901 miles around the world as we possibly can!"It’s also true that many of our customers – and those of other gyms and fitness classes – enjoy the camaraderie of their gym sessions and classes, and will have strong relationships with their fitness families and instructors.

>“We wanted to create a community goal that we could all work towards; our customers, our team, people who are new to fitness, the customers of other fitness providers – everyone is welcome to join us as we aim to collectively travel as many of the 24,901 miles around the world as we can!"

>Your Round The World Challenge >The challenge is free to take part in and simply asks people to record their walking, running or cycling distances on the Live Active Leisure website.  The total miles will be announced each week and will be counted collectively over the month of June.

>And to make it even more exciting, all non-LAL staff (and me - boo hoo!) taking part will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 of Live Active Reward’s partner vouchers. To find out more about LAL Rewards downlaod their most recent list.

>How To Get Involved

LAL will be running their #TravelTogetherChallenge from 1st to 30th June. Entry is easy: you can start at any time after June 1st but of course the earlier you begin the further you'll travel.

You can travel as far or as little as you would like either walking, cycling or running.  You won't be expected to upload your strata route or send in selfies - you will be trusted.  Just no taking the car to check your eyesite first!

Each week LAL will ask people to track and update their distance via an online entry form: www.liveactive.co.uk/travel-the-world.

Weekly updates will take place through LAL's Facebook page.

>Get Your Family, Pals or Team Involved

Remember this challenge is about working together and having fun so get your Zoom groups fired up and set some mini-challenges amongst yourselves.

>Agree on a goal that you can all collectively work towards. For instance you can cycle Land's End to John O'Groats, run between Perth to Glasgow, or walk the the seven walking wonders of Scotland? >Offer a small prize of incentive for the person who progresses the most from start to finish.  >Have your own group chat for daily updates and encouragement. This will help keep bonds strong, nurturing those working relationships. >Encourage them to feed into our larger challenge - it could be one of your colleagues picking up that £100 voucher prize! >Add an extra challenge with selfies at particular spots or including specific landmarks such as bridges or road signs that are local to you all.

In April, the Live Active Blairgowrie team targeted everyone to collectively reach 10,000 minutes of exercise, which they smashed - and promptly increased it to 20,000 for May! 

“The fantastic response amongst our own team has inspired us to launch this region wide challenge to our customers and anyone else who’d like to take part.  We'd love customers, staff and local communities to come together under one big goal - to find out how far Perth & Kinross can walk, cycle or run in our bid to travel the world!”
