The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Marches into Perth

By 4th August 2016

Over 400 performers from Scotland’s unique display of military entertainment will march from Tay Street to the North Inch on Sunday, 21st August.  They will showcase one of the world’s best renowned events and support the celebration of the 750th anniversary of The Treaty of Perth that will be taking place in the city centre on the same day.

MINI TATTOO - Girl JumpingThe Treaty of Perth event will celebrate both Norse and Scots culture and offers up a fun day out for the whole family (just don’t tell the kids they’ll be learning as they go!). There will be a whole host of activities to get involved with; from stone carving and woodcraft skills to medieval music and storytelling.  Meet the Viking Strongmen, enter your magnificent bristles in our best beard competition and watch on in wonder as the Living History entertainers bring you displays of medieval weapons, archery, music and dance.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will complement the Treaty of Perth Celebrations perfectly.  The parade, led by local bands and youth groups, will start marching at 11.00am from Tay Street. Elements of this year’s massive Edinburgh show will then perform a 'Mini Tattoo’ offering a sense of the international pageant The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has become.  The ‘Mini Tattoo’ will start at 11.45am on the North Inch and last around 50 minutes.

The Tattoo launched its 2016 programme in Edinburgh and is expected to draw crowds of 220,000 spectators from across the globe. Each year the international brand showcases a phenomenal mix of military pageantry, music, dance, and technical wizardry bringing together contingents from across the world.

MINI TATTOO - Funny FaceThe Edinburgh Military Tattoo are absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to host this taster of the prestigious Edinburgh Tattoo in Perth to show their breath-taking military choreography. It will be particularly striking to see the show of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo centrepiece acts and the involvement of our very own Perth and District Pipe Band.

The North Inch on the banks of the silvery River Tay offers the perfect stage for a taste of the Tattoo. This is the Tattoo’s first ever visit to Perth so this is a special occasion indeed!  The tattoo will entertain and inspire you on a Sunday afternoon and will be the perfect addition to the fantastic Treaty of Perth celebrations.
