Nancy Johnston will give this talk on SSAFA in the First World War. SSAFA, which was founded in 1885 as the Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association, is the oldest national military charity. For 130 years it has provided support for our Forces and their families. During the First World War it helped millions of military wives and children. This lecture will focus on the work done by the charity in Scotland during 1914-18 and on its links with The Black Watch.
Entertain and educate yourself with the hugely popular series of insightful lectures (one a month) and other exciting adult events (I hear there is wine tour in the pipe line!) that go on at the Blackwatch Castle and Museum. These events run throughout the year; you don’t have to be history buff to enjoy what is on offer, the venue really is more than a Museum!
If you haven’t already done so, take a stride along to the Castle and Museum and try out one the fantastic events. If you like what you find (and we are sure you will!) you could consider becoming a Friend. Not only will you be supporting the work of the Museum but you will find yourself with free entry to the Museum for a year with a few handy discounts to boot.
