In March, Perthshire Women’s Aid was revealed as one of two Official Charity Partners of The 2019 Solheim Cup. Nominated by Perth & Kinross Council and Gleneagles (as the host region and host venue), the charity was granted the status of Official Regional Charity Partner to ensure benefits from hosting The 2019 Solheim Cup are realised locally.

Perthshire Women’s Aid has launched an online auction to help them raise much needed funds to sustain services across Perth and Kinross. The Solheim Cup, Gleneagles and other Perthshire companies have generously donated prizes to be auctioned and used in other fundraising activities. Auction prizes include tickets and VIP hospitality passes to The Solheim Cup, fourballs at Gleneagles, a golf lesson at Gleneagles and The Solheim Cup season tickets which include reserved seating at the opening ceremony.

The money we raise from our auction will be used to fund our outreach service which allows us to support women, children and young people in their local communities

Joe FitzPatrick, Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing, said:
“The 2019 Solheim Cup is one of the world’s biggest women’s sporting events and has the potential to deliver a multitude of benefits to Scotland, including valuable charitable activity to help some of the country’s most vulnerable people. Through this partnership both Action for Children and Perthshire Women’s Aid will be able to promote their excellent work to a global audience as well as raising funds to benefit people both locally and nationally.”

Heather Williams of Perthshire Women’s Aid said: “Perthshire Women’s Aid is delighted to have been chosen as the local charity partner for the Solheim Cup which comes to Perthshire in September. The money we raise from our auction will be used to fund our outreach service which allows us to support women, children and young people in their local communities, reducing the barriers that come from living in rural areas and ensuring that they have access to high quality support which saves lives and changes lives.

We believe this will be a fantastic platform to ensure a wide audience are aware of the life-changing services we offer to women, children and young people with experience of domestic abuse.

Having the opportunity to be involved in an event which celebrates women’s sporting achievements fits with PWA’s vision of an equal society where women and girls live their lives free from abuse.”

Perthshire Women's Aid provides information, support and safe temporary accommodation to women, children and young people with experience of domestic abuse across Perth and Kinross. In 2018-19 they had contact with 596 women and 137 children and young people across the area that experienced physical, psychological, financial and sexual abuse, including coercively controlling behaviour. Perthshire Women’s Aid support women, children and young people to increase their safety and recover emotionally and physically from their experiences, including helping them to rebuild their confidence and self-esteem.
