You will know, if you are a regular reader of Small City, Big Personality, that PKAVS is our chosen charity and we do our best to spread the word about their amazing work throughout our local communities.
This year, like all years, PKAVS has been working hard to enhance lives and connect communities throughout Perth & Kinross. Every year, through support and working in partnership, they help over 5,000 local people including adults with mental ill health, young and adult unpaid carers and minority communities, to overcome personal barriers and achieve their goals in life.
Here's some of the great quotes from people who have been helped or supported and by those amazing folks out there who have given up their time to volunteer.
“If it wasn’t for the support provided by young carers we as a family would be very stuck, the support, advice, help, fortnightly groups, holiday trips and lifts to and from groups we would be lost and not function very well. All of this helps to maintain some balance in my children’s lives. This means that they are not just carers, they can have their childhood back.”
“Thank you for this wonderful lifeline.”
“I'm really happy that there is someone like Marlena and such organisation as PKAVS, because arriving here without a good command of English and without friends is really tough. Marlena helped me a lot with many enquiries I had and while attending appointments I also learned a lot about my rights and my responsibilities. Beside that it's a nice and friendly person always trying to help out quickly.”
“I think that I can move forward and I am not as scared about my future as in the beginning.”
“Now that I’ve had all of this benefit through PKAVS I’m not as frightened of the future.”
“From when I first started I feel more able to talk to people and have more confidence going to new places, I don’t know, I just feel happier in having a place to go to where I can just be me.”
This Christmas, they are asking for your help to support them in continuing the vital work they do supporting local people, right here, on your doorstep.
