The Mad Ferret Band are a Scottish duo, known on the folk scene for their hard hitting blend of traditional and contemporary Folk music. Their lively, energetic performances are packed with “blisteringly fast Mandolin solos”, tight harmonies, driving Cajon beats and earth-moving Guitar sounds. The influence from both Scottish and Irish folk music has helped shape their unique sound.
The Duo features Chris Woods on Mandolin, Guitar and Vocals and Sandy Stirton on Guitar, Cajon and Vocals.
Based in Perth, Scotland they are an extremely hard working band having played an average of 160 gigs a year across the U.K. and Europe. Since forming in 2012 they have been honing their music by playing the pub and small venue scene. They look to be even busier in 2014, with more festival performances and European tours on the way.
Sharing the bill with Mad Ferret is someone who is well known to regulars at the Greyfriars Bar Open Mic Night, Floyd Tomlinson.
Originally from Montrose but now based in Perth, Floyd's hard driving guitar and raw, melodic vocals are highly distinctive both in his band work and as a solo artist.
Floyd cites influences such as Illegal Alien, Pink Floyd, Ben Harper, Alice in Chains, Free, Bad Company and Deep Purple. But don't be surpirised if you hear some Del Shannon and Cat Stevens as well. All done in Floyd's own inimitable style, of course.
