(image) About Giraffe Trading, the charity
Most people take it for granted that they can go to work but for many their disability, health or barriers can make working a huge struggle. CheckIn and Giraffe are there to make the steps into work and towards a future in a sustainable job or work environment a reality.More about Giraffe Trading, the charity
Building confidence, teaching vocational skills and encouraging people to engage and communicate is at the heart of what Giraffe do.
Friendly, family-like environments help support people who can be isolated and alone because of their barriers to work and introduce them to other people including trainees and volunteers.
It’s this engagement with local businesses that is Gareth’s reason for taking on an event of this magnitude.
“As a social enterprise which concentrates on helping people with barriers to the workplace, we’re always looking for new ways to engage with local employers.
CheckIn and Giraffe offer a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and accepted. “The Great Perthshire Picnic has given us a reason to meet with and talk to a much broader range of potential employers than we would in our normal business. It also gives the employers a chance to find out more about what we do, and the value that one of our job seekers could bring to their workplace.
“Food and drink was the obvious link for us because we’re already involved in producing fresh food from our Perth sites, giving opportunities for people to gain experience in the catering and retail industries to help them move into employment.”
Social activities, befriending and inclusion groups around art, health and wellbeing can also bring enjoyment and added happiness to many of trainees.
CheckIn and Giraffe offer a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and accepted. Even through periods of illness, trainees are supported and the door remains open to allow long term recovery and the steps into, or back to, work possible.
