Finding The Silver Linings

By 24th March 2016

If you’re anything like the Small City team you will love a browse around a proper artisan gift shop - we could lose Rhona for hours at the smallest glimmer of anything shiny. Imagine our delight then when we heard that Perth girl, Kyley Campbell was taking the plunge and moving from a few shelves in Lorraine Law’s Princes Street shop to her own, brand new premises at the bottom of the High Street.

Silver Linings opened on Saturday 5th March showcasing a beautiful selection of Kyley’s signature jewellery which has grown a huge fan base over the past ten years.  As well as this, she has also sourced other gifts from fellow artisans bringing a flavour of wider Scotland to her shop.

The majority of these designers are based in Edinburgh; as well as building some very loyal customers, her presence at the International Edinburgh Festival over the past decade has also meant she now has an extremely talented group of friends! Very useful when looking to source the best quality crafts around. We particularly loved the bright art by Lynsay Hay who is an artist and illustrator from Perth.

KYLEY Silver Linings Shop

The wee shop is surprisingly bright and airy and she has lots of gorgeous things to tempt you in; I adore the handmade pouches for lipsticks and loose change (well, that’s what I’d put in them anyway!) and the glass dishes will be a big hit with anyone who enjoys colourful home accessories.  As will the scented candles and quirky cushions! You’ll also find unusual handmade cards (super arty!) and cool canvas bags-for-life.

Kyley’s workshop is right through the back (if you get on tip toes you can see it through the adjoining door) bringing a glorious arty vibe to the whole thing. With ten years experience working on her own brand, and four before that completing  a degree in Jewellery and Metal Design at Duncan Jordanstone College of Art, she’s no stranger to finding inspiration for her creative work.

KYLEY coloured twist necklaceShe likes to draw on ideas from natural forms and uses piercing and photo-etching techniques on flat sheet metal.  These translate into abstract and intriguing designs which Kyley sees as miniature, wearable sculptures. She uses both precious and non-precious materials to create sophisticated, organic forms, in a wide range of silver jewellery and will happily chat to you about bespoke pieces, made to your own design.

For those who’ve been missing Bertie Browns, Silver Linings is just what you’ve been waiting for. Another fantastic gift shop for Perth city centre and a brand new artisan Indie in the warm and friendly Kyley. Why not pop in and add her to your #PerthLoveFest favourites?
