The young musicians at this week's Southern Fried Rock Shop have had a whole heap more musical guidance than they could ever have hoped for!
Led by local musician Ali Pibworth, DIY Rock School is the ultimate all-round Rock Band experience for young musicians aged 9 - 16. Once a year they meet under the Southern Fried Festival banner and spend a week preparing for an amazing gig at the city's much loved Festival of Americana.
Kicking off on Monday 21st by Wednesday the week had been voted one of the BEST EVER at Rock Shop! The very cool Gabriel Kelley spent the day with them on Tuesday and the beautiful, talented and very awesome Miss Cyndi Cain (AKA Honey Bee) made Wednesday afternoon super special as the kids raised the rafters at Clearwater with their Gospel singing.
This year the kids have been mentored by:
David Latto and Gavin Brady – Singer/songwriter/guitar - The David Latto Band – Fresh faced from their current tour, we’re very lucky to have Gavin mentoring one of our bands for the week.
Gavin Munro – Lead Singer/songwriter/guitar – Red Pine Timber Company – Local living legend and Americana-expert, Mr Munro will be coming along to offer support and lend us some of his guitar-lickin' finger-pickin' expertise!
Donny McElligott – Singer/Songwriter/Guitar – New Madrids – known locally as the human juke-box Donny will be popping in to hang out with the bands, answer your questions and show us how to impart some Americana-style magic to our music!
To round off the week the kids will be busking on the morning of Saturday 26thJuly in Perth city centre before showcasing your weeks work by opening the main open air stage at the concert hall in support of the critically acclaimed, Red Pine Timber Company.
