Can you spare some time to help others? PLUS is a member-led mental health charity in Perth and Kinross.

Our values include trust, honesty, equality, justice, community spirit, partnership working, love and compassion.

At the moment we have around 280 members, people who have experienced mental distress and another 50 associate members, Friends of PLUS. Our office is based at 77 Canal Street, Perth and is open six days a week 8.30 to 4.00 Mon to Fri and Saturday Mornings. We also run a community common space on Wednesday evenings 6-8.30 at the Young Persons City Base, Scott St.

Wellbeing PLUS hope bannerOne of the main reasons people get in touch with PLUS is to find purpose through volunteering after experiencing a hopeless period in their lives, often brought on by mental distress. Many say they want to give back and help others who are in a similar situation that they once found themselves in. By helping others they help themselves;

Since becoming a friend and volunteer with PLUS around 3 and a half years ago my life has changed from being an alcoholic depressive not holding much hope for my future to someone who awakes every morning with confidence, soulful spirituality and a zest for life that I haven’t known since childhood.   -Hugh

Wellbeing PLUS group picAt PLUS we offer opportunities ranging from working in our community garden Horner’s Plot in the city centre to attending conferences and events to bring back new information on mental wellbeing. We fit the volunteering to the person allowing them to build on their strengths and re-ignite their passions contributing to the PLUS vision;

for a world of wellbeing where people experiencing mental distress are fairly treated with compassion, understanding and respect and can follow their hopes and dreams wherever they lead.”
