Development Worker

  • Location: CATH Day Centre, Perth
  • Hours: 37 hrs per week (Mon - Fri)
  • Salary: £19,869

Experienced  Development Worker required to offer practical and emotional support directly to adult service users who access our Drop-in Day Centre

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interview and assess service users needs and support and/or development requirements when presenting at the Day Centre
  • Take an active role with the support of the Community Services Co-ordinator in developing services to meet the needs of service users accessing the Day Centre and encouraging new service users to make use of the Day Centre resources.
  • Respond appropriately to service users’ challenging behaviour and ensure their well being
  • Respond appropriately to and address reported incidents involving assigned service users
  • To effectively deal with and resolve any incidents or emergencies that may arise
  • Take a lead in terms of key working, organising activities, check health and safety and promote service user involvement necessary to comply with Service Level Agreements criteria
  • To provide crisis intervention, where someone has a tenancy but is at risk of becoming homeless.
  • To identify preventative strategies to reduce the threat of becoming homeless.

Service Provision: Agencies

  • To work closely in a direct professional capacity, with colleagues from statutory and voluntary agencies, developing a network, which will benefit the client group.
  • To understand the network of agencies available and keep such information up to date.
  • To act as an information/advice/consultancy service for CATH and other agencies, particularly focusing on their understanding of the needs of ‘difficult to place’ people.
  • To encourage flexibility and co-operation at all levels with other agencies towards the needs of ‘difficult to place’ people, whilst being sensitive to the restraints, boundaries and legislation that affect other agencies and their operation.
  • To represent the team at relevant interagency meetings, with the agreement of the line manager.
  • To be involved in training events for other agencies.

Day Centre Activities

  • Provide general support and advice to individual service users, and initiate and encourage group activities within the Day Centre
  • Administer and input the case files of individual service users, recording support offered, ensuring that delivered services meet Service Level Agreements
  • Develop and maintain a key work and support planning service with service users to assist them to improve their quality of life and develop skills, such as; budgeting, cooking, cleaning, wellbeing, harm reduction etc
  • Support a service user involvement strategy; encouraging participation and providing feedback to service users on service delivery issues
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe supportive environment and pleasant atmosphere for all service users
  • To collect and record information for monitoring purposes and actively participate in data collection or research for evaluation purposes within the project
  • To contribute, as required, to reports on the work of the project
  • To maintain administration systems effectively
