First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will kick-off the Women of the World Festival at Perth Concert Hall on Friday 27th October, the first time that the event has been held in Scotland.

Sturgeon will take to the stage with WOW Festival founder, Jude Kelly, to chat about gender equality, what drives her, women who inspire her and more. The First Minister will then take questions from the festivals ‘WOWsers’ – young teenage women who have been working with WOW – in what has been billed as an evening of fun and frank chat about the most important and potent topics for women and girls today.

The WOW Perth launch with the First Minister runs from 7:30pm to 9pm on opening night of the festival, Friday 27th October.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “"I'm extremely proud to be opening the first WOW Festival in Scotland.

“Events such as WOW are extremely important. They help to open up the debate about gender parity, how we can accelerate progress, overcome the obstacles facing women today and how we can deliver an age of true equality. Achieving this is my priority as First Minister, but it is an important task for all of us.

“I look forward to an evening of great discussion celebrating and recognising the many achievements of women and girls.”

The First Minister kicks-off a packed weekend at Perth Concert Hall, which features some of the country’s most prominent female figures. Val McDermid, Kirsty Wark, Luisa Omielan, Lesley Riddoch and Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh are just some of the names who’ll be featuring over the weekend which comes to a close on Sunday 29th October at 5:30pm.
