WONDERWorks Charity Ceilidh

There’s a charity ceilidh being held at the Lovatt Hotel on Saturday 13^th May, in aid of a small charity based in Nepal – WONDERWorks Asia.

The event has been organised by Emma Laing from Perth, whose brother Ross was caught up in the 2015 Nepalese earthquake after returning to Kathmandu having been on Mount Everest.

Tickets are priced at £22.50 per person for the meal and ceilidh – with live music courtesy of local band Skelpit Lug.

The small charity is run by two women in the Nepalese capital and they assisted Ross with food and shelter for four days before assisting him with returning home – a luxury that many caught up in the earthquake were not afforded.

All donations made to WONDERWorks are 100% charitable and there are no overheads or staff costs to cover like larger charities. Their aim is to help women in Nepal earn a dignified living and help to continue their education. They aim to provide women with training and assistance in starting their own businesses in industries like tailoring and sewing, to help them improve their quality of life and steer clear of the sex trade where so many are forced into work.

They are also running a campaign to provide over 1000 free re-useable sanitary kits to school girls in Nepal. Unlike in the UK, sanitary products are not readily available in the country so without WONDERWorks help, many girls leave school at a young age to avoid the stigma or embarrassment that this causes.
