Alexandra Dariescu tells the story of Clara; a little girl who becomes a concert pianist, teaching the audience to use their imagination, to hope, work hard and never give up.
The grand piano on stage will be played by Dariescu herself and a stunning see-through gauze screen is where you'll see the incredible ballerina Désirée Ballantyne. The gauze will also have projected digital animations which have been hand drawn in advance by Yeast Culture. They accompany the music and engage with Dariescu on the piano, and the audience will feel like they're actually part of the Nutcracker story.
Tchaikovsky’s enchanting ballet music features throughout and includes favourites such as Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Arabian Dance, Chinese Dance, Pax de Deux, and the Flower Waltz, in 15 virtuosic arrangements by composers such as Mikhail Pletnev, Stepan Esipoff, Percy Grainger and three brand new adaptations by Gavin Sutherland.
Tickets go on sale from 10AM on Monday 26th March 2018. Friends of Perth Festival of the Arts can book one week in advance, from 10AM on Monday 19th March - and it's only £10 to join.
