Shackleton's Carpenter By Gail Louw, starring Malcolm Rennie and Directed by Tony Milner at Birnam Arts.

Shackleton's Endurance sank in Antarctica leaving 28 men stranded.

The carpenter, Harry McNish played a vital role in saving them. McNish, brilliant carpenter and shipwright, defied Shackleton, but went all the way with him and played an absolutely vital role in ensuring all 28 were saved.

But, for all his bravery and ingenuity, McNish was one of the very few who were never awarded the Polar Medal.

Now, ill and destitute, he challenges the Boss on the dockside. Can he lay his ghosts to rest?

Malcolm Rennie has appeared in over 20 West End shows including Catch my Soul, She Stoops to Conquer, The Good Companions, The Chiltern Hundreds, Hard Times and many more.

Recent stage appearances include Sir Anthony Absolute in the Rivals (Salisbury), Salieri in Amadeus (York), Willy Clark in The Sunshine Boys (W Yorks Playhouse), Spettigue in Charley's Aunt (Royal Exchange) and Colonel Pickering in My Fair Lady on international tour.

“Louw's writing is outstanding. Rennie's performance is a mesmerising tour-de-force of unparalleled intensity.” Eastbourne Herald
