Pawsitively Pawfect!

10 July 2019

The sun shone down on Scone Palace last Sunday, when it opened its gates and grounds to thousands of dogs (and their owners!) for its inaugural Paws At The Palace event in partnership with the wonderful Katie McCandless Thomas, and her Lhasa Apso Baxter, from Dog Friendly Perthshire.

Four-legged friends received the royal treatment with doggy fun and games, competitions, parades of different breeds, agility demonstrations and even some have-a- go sessions for those who fancy giving it a try.

Alongside breeds of all varieties, VIP (Very Important Pooch) Cruft's sensation, Kratu, the Romanian rescue dog who wreaked havoc around the Crufts agility course at the Birmingham NEC earlier this year. His "shaggy dog story" has been viewed by millions and he was certainly adored by all who met him at Scone.

The parade at the end saw a plethora of darling doggies and their owners, separated into breed to give a paw-some finale to the fantastic day. Nicki was there, proudly marching alongside the only Jack Russell in the parade, Olly, who looked particularly dashing his new neckerchief bought on the day!

The event is a celebration of Scone Palace's recognition as one of the most pet-friendly places to visit in the world. Not only is it a perfect place for a dog walk, but the Palace's Old Kitchen Coffee Shop is open to dogs during the winter months, offering a dog friendly environment to enjoy a scone and coffee and even doggie treats at the end of a walk.

Katie McCandless Thomas, who launched Dog Friendly Perthshire last year, attended with her Lhasa Apso, Baxter, who fronts her campaign. She said:

"I launched Dog Friendly Perthshire due to popular demand and it now has more than 7000 followers on social media. I'm confident that Perthshire will become the dog-friendly capital of Scotland, and Paws at the Palace is another step towards that happening. It's safe to say that Paws at the Palace is already an unmissable event."
