Can I get a Yee-haw! Stay out all night with Southern Fried presents: Late & Southern Fried

Yola Carter: 10.45pm

Dean Owens & The Whisky Hearts: 12.15am

Inspired by country and soul from the likes of The Band, Gillian Welch, Gene Clark, The Byrds, Staple Singers, Emmylou Harris, Otis Redding and Dolly Parton, Yola Carter is a force of nature, an incredibly talented singer-songwriter and a firm Southern Fried favourite going back to her Phantom Limb days. Live, the killer combination of Yola’s powerhouse voice, larger-than-life stage presence, killer band and superb soul-baring songs has proved completely irresistible from her very first show as a solo artist. She was an incredibly popular choice as the UK Artist of the Year at the AMA UK Awards in London in Feb 2017 and followed this up in Feb 2018 winning UK Song of the Year for Home from her acclaimed Orphan Offering EP.

A son of Leith, the toughened sinew of a Scottish heritage runs through Dean Owens like suspension bridge cable. His is the pugilist’s stare, the poet’s heart, the scholar’s ear for the origins of his craft and an unflinching honesty; all worn lightly, wielded with respect. His music conjures the open road’s wild romanticism, whilst searching for and combining the primal sounds of two very different countries. In Dean’s songs you’ll hear the legacy of the open plains drifters and box-car jumpers, the perfume of autumn heather, the copper burn of a single malt or a smoky latenight bar-room bourbon, the unfettered enthusiasm of early rock ‘n’ roll coupled with the sympathetic delivery of folk’s storytellers. His latest album Southern Wind has been widely hailed as his best yet and the perfect distillation of celtic spirit and country soul.

There’s no doubt that The Wandering Hearts have taken the UK music scene by storm in recent months with a string of high profile performances and winning the the Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award at The UK Americana Awards 2018. With their seamless vocal harmonies, The Wandering Hearts are reminiscent of First Aid Kit and Of Monsters and Men, whilst channelling Fleetwood Mac’s pop sensibility and the storytelling of Chris Stapleton, all the while keeping their British roots at their heart.
