Racecourse Season in Full Swing

The racing season has reached the midway point, and there’s still lots more action to come at Perth Racecourse. We’ve kicked off the season with the Perth Festival, watched on in style with Gok Wan at Ladies Day, cheered on the best in the UK and Ireland as they competed for the Gold Cup and taken the little ones to see the sport of Kings at the Family Race Day. Now that the summer is in full swing, the racecourse has teed up something special.

The first ever Golf Perthshire Race Day will take place on Wednesday 2nd August and it’s going to be a fantastic spectacle! As a keen golfer and huge horse-racing fan, this really is a dream come true. Combining two sports that are so popular in Perth, a fantastic crowd is expected for the inaugural event.

Perth Racecourse has teamed up with Golf Perthshire for the meeting, and there’s going to be lots of golf themed entertainment throughout the day. There are seven great races – each sponsored by a different Perthshire club – and Grassicks BMW of Perth will be there putting golfers to the test with a series of challenges.

What’s more, as part of the partnership with Golf Perthshire, all members of the 26 Perthshire-based golf clubs can currently receive a 40% discount when purchasing their tickets online. We’re lucky to have some of the best golf courses in the world right here in Perth. Perth Racecourse chief executive, Hazel Peplinski, is a keen golfer herself and she’s looking forward to seeing some like-minded golf and horse-racing enthusiasts on Wednesday.

“We’re excited to debut the first ever Golf Perthshire Race Day on Wednesday and we’re delighted with the enthusiasm from the seven sponsoring golf clubs to promote their sport to a new audience here at the racecourse.

“We’re lucky to have some of the best golf courses in the world right here in Perth, and it will come as no surprise to anybody who knows my passion for golf that it’s Perth where horse-racing has joined forces with golf for mutual benefit.”

The golf race day comes at a great time of year for the game in the UK. After the success of the Scottish Open at Dundonald Links, there was a thrilling weekend at Royal Birkdale for the Open Championship which captured the imagination of those who may not normally watch the sport. This week it’s the Women’s British Open at Kingsbarns Golf Links, and what better way to prepare for this than head to Perth Racecourse for a day of racing action mixed with golfing fun.

Perth Racecourse 17Alan Minto, project manager for Golf Perthshire, is looking to capitalise on the popularity of both sports in the region to stage a memorable event on Wednesday.

“The Open Championship has been absolutely fantastic this year and golfing fever has really swept the nation, so there’s no better time to host our special golf day at Perth Racecourse.

“It’s brilliant to bring together two of the finest sports in Perthshire, and we are looking forward to something completely new on Wednesday.”
