It may still be a few months away but it’s all go behind the scenes with the production team for this year’s homecoming Panto at Perth Theatre. You may remember from our earlier article that it was announced this year’s show would be none other than Aladdin – and director Lu Kemp has already cast some new and familiar faces for the performance which will have its curtain raiser on Saturday 9th December.

Now, the team behind this year’s panto are on the lookout for youngsters to play their part in what’s going to be a spectacular show. It’s an amazing opportunity for actors and actresses of the future to take to the newly restored theatre stage and show-off their performing talents. It’s open to those aged 9 to 13.

Perth Theatre Panto 2017 - Magic lampWho knows where it could lead? Many of the biggest Hollywood actors today made their first appearances on the stage in theatre. A ten-year-old Natalie Portman first appeared on stage in the Broadway musical ‘Ruthless!’, while Sex in the City’s Sarah Jessica-Parker appeared on the stage as a fresh-faced 13-year-old, playing the lead role in ‘Annie’.

Even seasoned acting veterans Samuel L Jackson and Morgan Freeman made their first acting appearances on-stage, so it’s a great place for any aspiring performers to get themselves noticed and to gain valuable experience.

Aside from that, it’s just a big chance to have great fun! The kids will get to have a laugh, a sing and a dance alongside their experienced co-stars, and try to help Aladdin stop the panto baddie Abanazer from taking over the world!

Director Lu Kemp hopes to see lots of young faces at the auditions, which will be held on Saturday 23rd September.

“We are looking for young performers for our first panto in the newly reopened Perth Theatre, Aladdin!  We are looking for commitment and enthusiasm. We’ll help you to sing, dance and act, but you don’t need to be good at any of these things… yet. We are looking for commitment and enthusiasm. We’ll help you to sing, dance and act. And we welcome people who are shy – lots of actors are.

“It could be you! If you would enjoy being part of a team and working with professional actors and crew, then get in touch and you could be on stage across the Christmas period!”

The panto is making its eagerly anticipated return to Perth Theatre this December after a long absence. It will be the first home-produced show in the newly restored Perth Theatre and it’s one you won’t want to miss!
