Afternoon Tea is one of these old traditions that our posh forebears would have been familiar with and luckily for us, it has been had a timely revival.

When the Atholl Palace opened in June 1878 elegant Victorian Ladies would glide in their long dresses through to the Verandah, with their attendant gents to partake of Afternoon Tea .  We still serve the full blown Afternoon Tea but no longer require ladies to be particularly elegant, nor to have attendant gentlemen!

Why not add a wee glass of Prosecco or a reviving Gin & Tonic, to add a little pazzazz? The delicate finger sandwiches with yummy fillings, are created with the utmost care and attention and make a fabulous start to the afternoon treat.  The range of teas available would make our Victorian friends green with envy as would the light, fluffy scones with the freshly whipped cream and jam.  And why not add a wee glass of Prosecco or a reviving Gin & Tonic, to add a little pazzazz?

You’ll never tire of the stunning view from the Verandah Restaurant window, looking down tree lined valley of the River Tummel.  In glorious sunshine, Highland Perthshire glows with the greenness in subtle shades and when its overcast and maybe even raining, the mysterious waft of clouds and mist over the river never ever stay the same for more than a couple of seconds.

In the winter months, when it’s dark early and there’s a nip in the air, there is nothing nicer than to snuggle up by the roaring open fires as you select your first choice from the tempting selection of cakes before you.  Once you’ve finished your eating experience you can take a walk around our Museum, laid out in the basement of the hotel.

You’ll never tire of the stunning view from the Verandah Restaurant window, looking down tree lined valley of the River Tummel. This tells the story of the building and early years of the Atholl Palace and, just to prove we are not stuck I the past there are computers for you to spend a while on Minecraft – which we are told is for the kids, but really we know it appeals to everyone!

A wander round our fabulous grounds can uplift the spirits when you catch glimpse of a red squirrel or perhaps, of a shy roe deer, peering at you from some of the specimen trees.  We have the Japanese Garden and the Herb Garden, both lovingly restored  by our dedicated gardeners are havens of peace and quiet where there is probably no phone signal and definitely no wifi.

Within easy reach of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Inverness, Pitlochry is an ideal place for a day outing without spending too long at the wheel, but it also has a good rail link.
